Problem: A Defense Contractor in the Aerospace industry needed a way to indicate authorized calibration of measurement and test instruments on their actual tools and machinery. That said, not only did the markings have to be durable, but they also had to accept writing, while simultaneously preventing undetected access to the calibrated inner workings.
Solution: As seen in the image, the finished labels were printed in black with a contrasting opaque white “signature area.” In order to fulfill the technical requirements, the following steps were taken:
– The graphics were protected with a polyester laminate to fulfill the durability requirement.
– The laminate layer was then specially top-coated to accept handwritten information without risk of smudging.
– Lastly, the label stock delaminates and reads “VOID” if tampering occurs.
